Reindigenizing, a culture of true humanity, the end of millenia of colonization, a return of the Commons, Land Back, a return to Natural Law, respecting the grandmothers, honoring ancestors, prioritizing relationships, service, relating to other species/plants/fungi/the Earth, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, abundance, ceremony, liminality and emergence, oral culture, the joy of growing food, perennials, fermentation, celebration, mourning, a respect for the maturing process... and Gratitude!

The federal government does nothing to help Americans in North Carolina who lost everything and are living in tents as winter approaches in the Appalachians, yet there is no hesitation to pour billions of bucks into an unwinnable war with Russia and to enable a genocide in Palestine.

We really should be enraged by these things.

I agree. There's no excuse for this lack of accountability to the citizens our countries are supposed to represent.

The first step to confronting the reality we face is to discern between "A" problem and "THE" problem. Overwhelmed borders is "A" problem that leads to other problems but "THE" problem is US government and corporate policies that cause revolutions, coups, sanctions, poverty and the need for people to migrate.

One of the best journalists around is someone most people don't know: Whitney Webb. She used to be with Mint Press News but is on her own and her two recent books "One Nation Under Blackmail" Vol. 1 & 2 address "THE" problems that are causing the problems stressing people out, dividing neighbors, devastating the economy and climate.

Whitney was interviewed by Brianha Joy Gray on her 'Bad Faith' podcast. It's 90-minute interview but very interesting and touches on "THE" problems underlying the collapsing nations in the West and the rapidly developing hi-tech dystopia being put in place. Whitney talks about the potential for class-based unity between many on the right and left. Time to unite against our common enemies. I really encourage you to watch the interview and check out her reporting:

"Solidarity is what will save us, but how do we achieve it?"

Exactly! And we do need to achieve that solidarity quickly before somebody decides to push the big red button that drops the nukes.

"When we see the world through the eyes of love, war and environmental devastation don’t make any sense."

Truth! Why would anyone want to destroy something or someone they love? We must encourage brotherly love and love of Mother Earth... It's not going to be easy when the mainstream media preaches nothing but hate, but we can't give up. We have to keep loving and demonstrating that love to others until they catch on. Power (and love) to the people!

We have to look out for each other, since our systems fail us more and more. And I think we're able to build alternatives that are better than what's on offer. Thanks for commenting.

Let’s face it, the Western world (as it was and is now) needs to bow out, the world stage.

Enough is ENOUGH.

AND NEVER AGAIN.

NEVER 🇵🇸💔🙏

I agree, Nanwan. NEVER AGAIN. NEVER.

I wonder how we can transform our western world from the inside out? I can't stand the system, but there are so many great people stuck in it.

Take good care, Najwan.

As writers, it is always important to tell the truth using facts as the basis for the story. So, as writers we tell stories, about how people are struggling in this dysfunctional world, where greed and selfishness are admired and normized. Let us never accept these as normal. Never.

Let's stop pointing fingers at each other. This is precisely the plan of the wealthy, to divide us. Let us know who the enemy is; hint: start with the billionaires. And, most important, let us take good care of Home Earth and all the beautiful species with whom we share it.

Consume less.

Absolutely true, Diane! Ugliness and corruption have cast a shadow over our world, highlighting the urgent need for a transformative narrative—one rooted in justice and dignity as core principles for humanity. Such a vision must be shaped by those who genuinely uphold these values, not by those motivated by self-interest and indifference.

It is those who cherish beauty who rise to spread it and confront the forces of ugliness. They are the ones who stand against injustice, advocate for the powerless victims of genocide, extend compassion to the needy and homeless, and combat oppression, corruption, and senseless violence. These individuals tirelessly strive for the betterment of all, working to uphold dignity and foster peace. They embody clarity of purpose, knowing what they stand for, how to choose their path, and where to take a stand, serving as a beacon of hope in dark times.

Thank you for such a beautifully written and deeply inspiring article.

"people making big bucks by turning what was once considered a human right into an investment opportunity." Right!

You are also right about contradictory information being overwhelming. I read everything, even those who are speaking to my choir, with a grain of salt. I need to become more selective as you suggest. Too much salt is bad for the BP!

I also still look sometimes just to see what's being said in mainstream media and some of the misinformation out there too, Claire, just to see what is being said. But it's worth it to make sure what we believe is actually based on reliable news, imo.

Hi Diana,

You might be interested in my ‘course”.

Among many other things my course identifies what we should be striving for and what we should be avoiding. It puts forth a way to do this by using the tools that we already have.

Maybe you could take one class at a time. The first class is John Mearsheimer describing what a “theory” is in relation to his theory of offensive realism. This can be found in YouTube and it’s about 10 minutes.

The second class is made up of a very short YouTube video of the Dalai Lama stating that it’s best to think of others not just yourself. And the second video is a ted talk reviewing the Harvard study on happiness. (This is what we should be striving for)…
