So clearly written and explained. Such an accurate explanation of how things are. I very much value your contribution to providing honest comment on the serious tragedies of today and the hypocrisy and manipulation that has brought us here.

Thank you. More strength to your hand.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️

roger, thanks so much! This was a hard post to write. I wanted to zoom out so people can get an understanding of the global situation as I understand it. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the easy to comprehend 'cliff notes' about US propaganda that intentionally interferes with diplomacy and world peace. The charter of BRICS reminds me what drew me to the Green Party decades ago: it's principles. I found a home, a place to begin again within this country to build with integrity, values of peace and diplomacy and equality and actions governed by consensus, not money. We do have options but the duopoly is also propaganda--that you only have two choices. Thanks again for this post.

Yes, the Green Party drew me in decades ago too, Yvonne. Those are the principles we need for a green and fair future.

We have to explicitly realize that our failure to live cooperatively and share will result in planetary extinction. This realization goes to the very core of the present crisis. This is an historic pivot point for 8 billion people.

Like Einstein said, if there is a third world war the fourth will be fought with bones as clubs... we are headed in that direction.

If only it were as easy to change the way the world works as it is to understand how the world works. Because, alas, once you've figured it out, or have begun to figure most of it out, you realize what we're all up against: that most people's self-interest takes precedence over the interests of others, if in fact the interests of others even count. Until most people realize that all humans have the same basic interests and needs, and that no man is an an island, as John Donne so wisely wrote, the majority will continue to struggle, scrape and scramble around at the bottom while the minority at the top take advantage to carry on and do as they please. While BRICS indicates an inevitable shift towards a multi-polar world while the unipolar world of American domination declines, one can only hope that what the world looks like down the road does not fulfill the old saying that the more things change, the more they stay the same! Because the prime motivation behind the formation of BRICS, as I see it, is not how to make the world better, safe, healthier, more peaceful for the collective good of humanity and all living things but how to make it easier to do business and make money.

I see it as being more from the Chinese set of values that are more systemic and wanting healthy peaceful relationships.

I do agree, Diane, that just seeing things more accurately doesn't make them easier, but it makes them possible. When we don't see things accurately, we can't make sound decisions, or have a constructive path to follow.

These dynamic times make change inevitable, and the more people who understand the broad strokes, the more power we have to take the future in a better direction.

I am not familiar with Chinese values, so cannot judge their motivations. One thing that would temper any enthusiasm for BRICS is that the only members to act in support of the Palestinians are Iran and South Africa, and even they have not been able to stop the genocide.

KJ Noh, who I referred to in my post, gives a lot of perspective on the Chinese outlook. And you're right about Iran and South Africa -- they've made great efforts on behalf of Gaza, as has Yemen, which is communicating with BRICS. I wonder if it will join. I wish the genocide would stop. Professor Marandi, who I listen to any time I see something of his has alluded to Iran affecting what's going on in Gaza in the future. Fingers crossed.

While I don't know whether BRICS will truly provide the answer, I agree with your commentary. In particular, I must cite the following: << I’ve heard repeatedly that we in the west are the most propagandized people in the world. >>

This is SO true! Why is it that the US media STILL cannot use the G-word (genocide)? What else can the atrocities be called?

Sadly, I have seen comments by people cheering Trump and "our brave pilots" for risking a nuclear crisis (at least environmentally) with the unnecessary s trikes against Iran. Americans have become most adept at brainwashing...

I know, Lenny. These kinds of comments are so hard to comprehend. The brainwashing is so powerful.

Is BRICS part of the problem or is it part of the solution?

Expand full comment
Diana van Eyk's avatar

In my opinion, it's part of the solution, Susan. It's less about the countries involved and more about how countries interact with each other.

The western establishment considers it a big problem, but I think a world in which countries treat each other fairly and peacefully is a good thing.

Thanks for your excellent analysis …I hold onto a small thread, that the sacrifices , resilience and courage of the Palestinians is waking and transforming the world away from the Death cult of empires.

May this be true, may their suffering now finish 🇵🇸so that peace and justice can be given to them after all the years of oppression, colonialism and illegal occupation.

Palestinians are the “canary” warning us of who is next, if we resist the new World order.
