Very powerful Diana, the TRUE meaning of Mother's Day. I will be spending the afternoon with my Canadian 'family' & intend to share Jarvis' quote with them. My Mum departed 2019 & I miss her dearly, but she will be with me in spirit. 🧡🙏
While travelling through 8 countries in Europe, with pretty poor language skills in all of them, it is the women we meet who aim to understand our needs, without pomp or show, and often with no language between us. It gives one a warmth that ignores borders, careers, ambition, money.
It has often been said that women have had to struggle to make it in a man's world. We can now see where that has taken us.
Julia Ward Howe's proclamation to women and to the world in 1870 is 154 years ahead of its time but light-years ahead of the still-sorry state of women's fortunes to this day. It is so reasoned, passionate and profound, and is a plea for sanity that is tragically dishonored by the direction and state that men have brought the world to in 2024. Thank you, Diana, for this most excellent expression of Howe's visionary perception!
You're welcome, Leon. I think it's so important to honour the radical roots of this day. More than ever, we desperately need peace, and we need the genocide to stop.
Thank you so much Diana for sharing this important message which really resonates, especially since I am from a long line of conscientious objectors to war.
This year in the UK, Mother's Day was Sunday, March 10th:
"Unlike Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween, Mothering Sunday falls on different dates in different countries every year.
"This year, the UK will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 10.
I miss my beloved sweet, beautiful mum. She was my best friend. I am however consoled by the fact that she is still with me in spirit although I haven't heard from her in an obvious fashion for awhile. She must be busy with the other souls who are doing everything they can to help us here in the Earth dimension at this pivotal time of great upheaval and necessary change.
I don't know how any mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, wife, any woman would not stand against war and senseless slaughter. Not to be taken as an example is President of the European Commission Ursula van der Leyen, a mother of seven, a physician, and a rabid war enthusiast. https://dianeengelhardt.substack.com/p/i-will-carry-you
We used to display signs with the original declaration of Mother's Day on them for a peace rally on this weekend, but this year we had the Nakba Walk instead. Both much better ways to celebrate the day--declaring peace for ALL mothers and no more deaths to their children forced to fight rich men's wars!

I'd love to see this meaning of Mothers' Day revitalized. Sorry to hear about your Mum, but I'm sure she'll be with you in spirit.

That's for sure, Ann. Thanks for commenting, and Happy Mothers' Day to you.

What a wonderful lineage to have come from, Azra! I'm glad this message resonates.

I don't understand it either, Diane.
Re: van der Leyen: sounds like cognitive dissonance on steroids.
And sociopathic ambition!
That's for sure.
Engaging and powerful Mam! ✨
I'm glad it moved you, Neha.
Thanks for sharing this, Diana. I hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day.
Thanks, Tara. I hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day too.🌷

Both sound like great ways to celebrate the day. We need peace for ALL mothers, I agree.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful message, greatly appreciated dear Diana. Happy Mother’s Day.
Thanks, Capt. Eissa. And Happy Mothers' Day to you too.
I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier
"Ten million soldiers to the war have gone,
Who may never return again.
Ten million mothers' hearts must break,
For the ones who died in vain.
Head bowed down in sorrowin her lonely years,
I heard a mother murmur thro' her tears:
Chorus:
I didn’t raise my boy to be a soldier,
I brought him up to be my pride and joy,
Who dares to put a musket on his shoulder,
To shoot some other mother’s darling boy?
Let nations arbitrate their future troubles,
It’s time to lay the sword and gun away,
There’d be no war today,
If mothers all would say,
I didn’t raise my boy to be a soldier.
(Chorus)
What victory can cheer a mother’s heart,
When she looks at her blighted home?
What victory can bring her back,
All she cared to call her own?
Let each mother answer in the year to be,
Remember that my boy belongs to me!"
