"but what surprised me was the number of white men who express a kind of glee at the outcome."
Although I am a white man, I was not among many who did express the glee you point out at Trump's somewhat surprising victory. I think the glee is an emotional reaction to the socioeconomic duress many Americans have found themselves under, in a crumbling empire, and the facade of democracy - of which Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton (er, I mean Kamala Harris) who are so easy to see through - along with today's mass media like CNN or MSNBC here in the States. The Elites are now so far insulated from the lives of ordinary Americans, they fail to address some of people's most fundamental issues: such as maintaining a roof over their head, or affording to be able to see a doctor, or go to the grocery store once a week. Many Americans are not inspired by whether transgenders should be allowed to compete in the sports of their choice as the sex of their choice. Even though it can be an important issue for some.
Chris Hedges wrote an excellent substack article on what he believes the underlying issues of what led to Trump's victory titled "The Politics of Cultural Despair": https://substack.com/home/post/p-151277981 Worth a read.
I think you're right. I've been worried about fascism for decades as I've watched our social supports crumble and costs rise.
I haven't read the article by Chris Hedges yet but it's on my radar.
Funny, this election reminded me of the Hilary Clinton version too, and I was pretty sure Trump would win.
I hope it didn't seem that I was implying that all white men felt glee over this, but I know a few personally, and it is rather shocking. I keep wondering how they got to that place.
I thought it would be really close, and thought Kamala would win! I also think part of the glee may not be so much that they loved Trump, but they hated the ongoing genocide so much and the obvious phony propaganda (Russia Gate anyone) that many felt the Democratic party should have been held accountable (like any sense of justice one feels for a wrong done) and not voting for the Democratic party (such as Muslims in Michigan) was a way to feel vindicated in at least the "accountability" department.
Although, I don't think Trump won because of the ongoing genocide, it played a role but not the biggest role - especially given that he seems pretty much as gung-ho on mass murder as Joe Biden and Kamala appear to be. I think he became elected more of what Chris writes about, he just appeared more as the "down-to-earth" populist candidate, more on the side of the people - then the artificially propped up Kamala Harris. Which, historically is how most fascist demagogues come into power. One of the reasons Hitler came into power was because at the time, the social democrats in Germany had also become pretty corrupted and weak in representing or addressing the woes of the general population. Hitler promised strength and "new greatness". But of course, the promise was also a lie. It could very well be Trump will also become another kind of tyrant that Americans have never been subjected too. Strong man - Right-Wing victories seems to be the trend these days in several Western countries - due to the corruption/weakness on the so-called Left. Trump's victory, was not so much because of his own virtues, but the deficiency of the corrupt party he ran against (IMO).
And I suspect, the Democrat party is so corrupted now, even this defeat won't make one whit of difference to them. The underlying problem is representative democracy no longer exists in the US. What is being represented is monied interests, not the interests of We the People.
If the Democratic party really stood for authentic Left values, and had not sold its soul to corporate America & Wallstreet decades ago, someone, like the Bernie Sanders of 2016 (not the Bernie Sanders today) would be the US president now, not Trump.
The party pretends to be Left because it has to pretend. But in truth, the party is more beholden to its wealthy donors and no longer serves the interests of ordinary Americans.
Unfortunately "...incredibly miserable and lonely" is the goal.
The corporate powers -- embodied in both political parties -- want us scrambling for daily survival and suspicious of our neighbors and hateful toward groups other than our own. Such division and suspicion/hate and paranoia is the key to power at the top. End-stage capitalism always has to tip into totalitarianism to suck up the last of the communal wealth and consolidate power.
Those who thought it would be different under Kamala Harris were naive. All you had to do was see the look in her eye at the "I'm speaking" moment on the first day of her campaign.
It's the system, not the candidates. The candidates and leaders like Biden, Trump, Starmer, Trudeau and Macron are nothing more than the bowhead on the various listing national garbage barges making up the Western world.
Our 'leaders' are not about reforming the system, they are pooped out of the system. The good news is the hypocrisy, accumulated debt and plummeting IQ of those placed in power will bring the system to collapse. Now, as to what comes after...
I think you're right, and then there's mounting pressure from the rest of the world. I think we should start building what we want to come after. Thanks for your comment, Mark.
I was thinking this morning that in this time of growing fear we all need to speak louder. Resist more. Refuse to comply. A price will be paid but to not do so will cost far, far more.
I wish I could think that voting for someone "caring, coherent, honest" would actually make a difference. I think our system would corrupt such a person very quickly. This is not directly related to your post, but it points to why we have so many issues with our so called "democracies" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clHlvgOPrWY&t=512s
Ya, I've certainly seen that at the provincial level, and I'm sure it happens at all levels, Susan. There are those who manage to not be corrupted like Jeremy Corbyn, but our system is so hard on people like that.
I don't know if he would have ended up corrupt. It was the beginning of the insane accusations of "antisemitism" as outlined in the video that I included with my first comment. Criticism of Israel has been called antisemitic for a while now, but since October 7th, it is on steroids.
It is beyond dishonest. It is using what has been and continues to be a genuine issue, antisemitism, and using it as an excuse to commit any kind of violence they want. It makes it so that people who are real antisemites can more easily get away with their comments.
I agree, and I think it's actually increasing anti-semitism. I've had two people on Substack try to convince me that the genocide is the fault of Jews, failing to separate them from Israel and Zionism.
I have noticed that attitude more than once or even twice in substack comments. Disappointing. Still, I support the idea of not censoring people's speech. We need to know.
OMG, I am listening to a report of this on CBC. It is calling it antisemitism. It is talking as if the Israelis were the ones being attacked, not the ones attacking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clHlvgOPrWY&t=512s
Let's not forget in the us the people that don't have term limits, vote on if people want to give them term limits. THEY VOTE ON giving themselves TERM LIMITS!!!!! That was never supposed to be a lifetime job!!!!!!!
This is defiantly NOT the thinking and attitude that has changed the climate at a compounding accelerating rate.
Don’t you mean your infringing on my rights that is a blow against me. “Me, myself and I.” That’s my community, I don’t need or want the rest of you.
- We really don’t realise just how inter dependant we all are on each other and on our Mother Earth that holds us up and feeds us everyday
Getting along despite our differences! Are you mad! It’s them, over there, the ones jumping the queue, crossing the border, the blacks, the illegals, it’s the the the.
- Juvenile brainwashed thinking always blaming someone else when we must start with, I am the problem.
“…expect to have systems to address international problems that are fair and peaceful…”
Ha ha ha, sorry this is funny, all our collective history since the Europeans jumped in their ships and went conquering, shows the complete opposite.
Mr Chomsky said there is only one right, the right to rob and exploit. Colonial settler genocide is what all our country’s are still enrich themselves massively on today and now we sit idly by and live stream the Israel Cults obliteration of what remains of Palestine.
“What’s good for us all is good for us individually.”
- now your getting socialist and then you will be branded a communist and with that label a target etc etc.
“We all lose when people feel desperate, alone and uncared for.”
- Now you’re sounding like a mother and a caring father. Totally unacceptable, Gaza’s murdered and maimed children are not my kids.
“…when there are contentious global issues, there are processes in place to work them out peacefully. I don’t want wars, and I’m sick of the dread of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads.”
- I vote for World Cup soccer as conflict resolution otherwise it war and mass killing.
“The concentration of wealth, and the resultant hunger and homelessness, don’t benefit any of us, even the very rich.”
- oh is massively benefit’s the billionaire elites. True hard core psychopaths, who at their core have no empathy. This is why they are endlessly ruthless with people and the planet. Putin, Xi, Modi, Musk, Trump, Bibi, Bezos, Zuckerberg, all corporate leaders are a cabal of hard core psychopaths. They do not and never will feel anyone else’s pain or suffering, literally everything you’re talking about is like an alien language to them. Their brains are wired without empathy or love. It’s winner takes all, burn them all, kill em all game to them. The more damage and flames the better. We and the planet are the pawns in their cruel sadistic games, profit plans and wars. We really are in big trouble literally everywhere.
- The WEF is the cabals annual shin dig ensuring all parts of the world wide rape of all people and the planet continues unabated and we, the elite, continue to profit from it. Otherwise there would have been change long ago.
- The UN was compromised from the start by the WWII winning elite handing themselves the UN Security Council veto powers to ensure the right to rob and exploit will and must continue. And so it did and has. The AIPAC cabal has protected the Zionist genocide plans ever since vetoing every decision against USrael ever since. This is no coincidence.
“But in many ways, we’re being pitted against each other for the benefit of those at the top.”
- classic military strategy, atomise, bulkanise, sow division, sabotage within, provoke conflict, lie, distort, arrest, lock up, bribe, then resort to threats then bashing and assassination when all else fails. Eg Martin Luther King. It’s called oppression. Uncle Putin is a master at it, Xi’s China surveillance is second to none and our governments have given themselves draconian “terrorist” powers for when we get out of line.
- Agree totally. We literally are ALL the same everywhere. There are no differences at all.
- Every fertile man and woman on this planet can breed with each other. A child born anywhere can learn the language it grows up in.
- We all have the same wants and desires and needs.
- It’s so sad we are so blind and so conditioned by our families, country’s and religions and ideologies. So little awareness of ourselves. We are literally the problem makers and we can’t see it. We are the negativity makers when nothing else in the world knows and deliberately creates negativity for ourselves and others.
“What kind of a future do they envision?”
- a hate filled one is fascism. One based on domination, that is endless as Alon so eloquently outlined. That is at the core of the patriarchy colonial settler genocide which is Wetiko as know by the original Americans.
“…will have a federal election, and it’s likely that we’ll elect a similar leader.”
- this is the risk to us all everywhere, the psychopaths are dog whistling each other and are preparing to launch their populist demigod BS campaigns. Need to get busy to combat it, call it out, defend what you have because it’s so easy to loose.
“I hope we can reach the level of societal maturity where we care for the well-being of everyone. “
- this comes down to everyone of us. Awareness of who we think we are? Questioning all our attachments to people, idea, beliefs, questioning everything and where they came from. Living every moment as if it was your last and knowing it could be. It’s a journey within we all must make on our own, don’t follow anyone, they will just condition and program you, you must do your own work. No one can do this for us. Own who you think you are and go find out.
It's basically a system that the rest of the world, which makes up the majority of the population, mostly wants. It's about non-interference, peaceful, fair and respectful international relationships and creating win-win economic relationships.
Sure, the west has been arrogant, self-serving, self-centred and exploitative. But how do you think the rest of the world feels about that?
And they're winning economically and globally and, as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. I'm sick of all the sneaky, crappy things that the west does so it can maintain its hegemony.
So what you describe is where we're at now. But things are changing whether we like it or not, and we should take a globalist look and decide for ourselves whether we want to stay mired in the destructive BS that is our western scenario, or start actually playing fair on the global stage.
My hope is that some of this sensible, peaceful stuff will trickle over to the west, but there's so much BS to cut through, it'll take a lot of work. Western nations are the most propagandized in the world.
But lots of people here in the west are waking up to this.
I'm an idealist also. We see how it could be and isn't. I'm also a mom and grandmother. As long as we remain separated and propagandized, we the people won't rise up. Electing tRump has been a classic blunder. ✌️
Yes, very aware of the BRICS I have been following them for years.
Both Uncle Putin and Uncle Xi run two of the most oppressive countries in the world.
All media is state controlled and do not even think about decent. Putin has driven all Russian Independant media out of Russia and named them as “foreign agents” so he can lock up anyone or journalist he wants.
China has very active and dynamic man in the middle filtering of literally everything, you send something and I never get it that would most likely be AI driven to monitor and track all decent and snuff it out by censorship.
We can think about decent and “not in my name” but we get ignored anyway.
Ultimately it’s the banks, money system, corporations and the stock markets that are our collective enemies. Corporations are fascist at their hearts just well hidden.
They have enormous financial money power and can and do dictate so much by manipulation and out sight bribery of everyone and everything.
These massive corrupting organisation are so good at raping the planet and whole populations that we have changed the climate at an accelerating rate.
Musk and Bezos are snuggling up to trump 2.0 now and will do even better under him. Some of the corporates under the Nazis still exist today.
BASF is the largest chemical producer in the world today originally built Auschwitz III then known as IG Farban.
Based on trump 2.0 running Amerika as a gangster he will just do deals with the Xi and Putin and the corporate status quo will remain and strengthen. That is all I can see unfortunately atm.
Government is a tool of the financial elite - the only way to reach your objective is by introducing accountability for politic who no longer serve the public interests.
Who played a leading role in the creation of the UN - in any case I'm opposed to a one world government.
Finn, if the UN is so powerful, why hasn't it been able to stop the genocide in Gaza.
I think having regulatory bodies to find peaceful solutions to international disagreements is a good thing, and doesn't imply a one world government.
Here's something I copied from a site about APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation).
"In the future, APEC should continue to focus on development, promote the spirit of partnership featuring harmony without uniformity, and solidarity and mutual assistance, adhere to the APEC approach of voluntarism, consensus-building, flexibility, pragmatism and incremental progress, respect each member's right to development and their chosen development path, strive to enhance the capacity of developing members for independent development, and continuously transform the diversity of APEC members into a driving force for cooperation."
Governments make agreements all the time, and they have bodies to sort out agreements. That's not the same as a one world government.
It's not all that powerful since it's not able to stop this mad genocide being waged against the Palestinians - that has to be the frustration of Francesca Albanese, there's something else above that* which holds member nations in perpetual check.
Not all nations are equals, a handful of nations have veto powers, without veto powers the UN could almost be considered as Democratic and then there are poorer nations dependent on US dollars - which is the UN biggest donor - and they vote accordingly.
The Zionist simply announced themselves to the UN in 48, yet now they have the audacity to threaten and kill people working for UNRWA - There's a recent proposal to suspend Israel's membership* - I think they should seriously consider it as they can no longer be seen as respecting the Universal charter of human rights or international laws the Geneva conventions etc... *[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1OnqAariTA ]
There are other forces and agenda's in play why they're not doing everything they possible can to halt the Genocide - their objective is the creation of a greater Israel which includes much of the regions oil and gas fields which will make Israel an economic powerhouse and it's masters very much wealthier [and simultaneously provide a miracle cure for the ailing confetty dollar] just like the first world war was about ending the reign of the Ottoman empire and paving the way for another empire to take over - all wars are bankers wars is true indeed.
Lets mention that the second world war could have ended much sooner by halting material aid and they're doing it again [as its tremendously profitable]
They control the western world’s finances and monetary system, ever since the foundation of the US Federal Reserve Act in 1913, also the work of a group of US-Zionist bankers and financiers. Therefore, they can do with the west – or think they can do – whatever they want.
It might not come to a greater Israel as its receiving a pounding which could destroy the zionist led apartheid state.
The plandemic revealed that we already have a one world government.
Just cause it’s lawful,
Don’t make it right,
Much this world,
In need of re-write

Case in point can be seen here, they are SO arrogant, trump, Harris, all the same, can’t care have no empathy hard core psychopaths at play - https://open.substack.com/pub/geopoliticaleconomy/p/blackrock-doesnt-matter-us-election-trump-kamala-harris?r=3pd49j&utm_medium=ios
So true. These sociopaths don't care. They want it all.
Government is a tool of the financial elite - the only way to reach your objective is by introducing accountability for politic who no longer serve the public interests.
Who played a leading role in the creation of the UN - in any case I'm opposed to a one world government.
5 years ago....Rosa Koire. UN Agenda 2030 exposed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PrY7nFbwAY
Sorry for the long reply.
